Instructor Joao Ricardo Cunha has been actively training in Jiu Jitsu since 1989. From his early days in Brazil until now, he has fought in two Brazilian National fights and two times in World Championships. Joao also competed in Clube de Pitbull in Teresopolis (Rio De Janeiro), where there are over 20 Jiu-Jitsu academies, each with their own disciplines.

There is a mutual respect amongst the Pitbull, Gracie, Nova, and Uniao clubs. Members appreciate and recognize each others styles and the connection runs deep between the academies.

 

1989:

Instructor Joao began competing as a yellow belt.

1994:

Competed as a blue belt in Brazilian National Championship.

1995:

Stop training due to a severe car accident.

2000:

Returned to competition as a purple belt.

2001:

1. Came to the USA and fought in 3 tournaments.
2. Competed in Slam Tournament - 1st in weight class, 2nd in absolute class.
3. Gladiators Challenge (first no-holds barred fight)

2002:

1. Fought submission wrestling superfight at Cesar Gracie Jit-Jitsu Tournament.
2. Pre-Event Champion - Qualifier for Abu Dhabi

2003:

1. Grapplers Quest Champion (No-Gi)
